Office of Survey Research

The Office of Survey Research at the University of Massachusetts Medical School’s Center for Health Policy and Research specializes in providing complete, customized survey research services.

Our clients — federal and state government agencies, nonprofit organizations, academic institutions, medical practices, and private sector clients — use the health-related survey data we collect for a wide variety of purposes, such as:

  • Informing public policy decisions
  • Changing clinical practice
  • Enhancing public health programming
  • Increasing the understanding of population health
  • Improving health care delivery systems

Our survey research experts work closely with clients to develop and conduct effective, targeted surveys with maximum survey response rates. We offer a broad array of survey services and have experience with one-time and longitudinal surveys. We survey both patient/consumer populations as well as respondents in a professional capacity, such as staff members at medical practices.

Regardless of the type of project, we can provide the following services:

  • Survey planning and design
  • Sample selection
  • Mixed-mode data collection, including mail, phone and online via PCs, smart phones and tablets
  • Data analysis and reporting

We are certified by the National Center for Quality Assurance (NCQA) to administer the Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS) Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) survey.

Our core staff of survey methodologists, operations and project directors, analysts, and interviewers is complemented by UMass Medical School’s experts in health care delivery, health policy, and biostatistics — to name only a few of the many resources available to our clients.

The Office of Survey Research maintains state-of-the-art facilities to conduct survey research. We operate an in-house call center in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, equipped with leading telephony and web-based survey management systems. With these technologies, our team conducts mixed-mode surveys featuring mail, telephone and web modalities with integrated data collection.
